Puarenga Park
A large grassed sports and recreation ground beside Puarenga Stream on Te Ngae Road, east of central Rotorua. When sports games aren't scheduled, the wide-open fields become a fantastic off-leash play space — roughly one hectare of room to run alongside a scenic stream. Early mornings and evenings are the best times for a big off-leash session.

Great big open grassed area with the stream running alongside. My two dogs absolutely love it here early mornings before the sports teams arrive. Plenty of space to run free.
Underrated dog exercise spot on the east side of Rotorua. Much less crowded than Kuirau Park and just as much space. The stream is a bonus on hot days — my lab goes straight in.
Good local park for exercise. Just check the sports schedule before heading out — when there's a game on the dogs need to be on-lead. Otherwise it's lovely and open.
