New Zealand's longest paved shared path stretches 65km from Ngaruawahia to Lake Karapiro along the Waikato River. Dogs on leash are welcome throughout, with plenty of river access for a splash along the way. Start from Hamilton Gardens for a scenic riverside walk or cycle through the heart of Hamilton.

We walked a 10km section from Hamilton Gardens and it was stunning. Dogs are welcome on leash and ours paddled at every river access point. Highly recommend for a weekend outing.
Perfect for cycling with the dog. The path is wide, smooth and almost entirely flat. Loads of lovely spots along the river for dogs to cool off in summer.
We did a section from Ngaruawahia to the Hopnotic Brewery in Tamahere which was a great day out with the dog. Well signposted and the surface is excellent throughout.
